Dnepropetrovsk is a major city in the East-Central Ukraine with the population of over 1.2 million people. It is a dynamic and alive city which has a lot to offer. It is surprisingly green with the wide and slow Dnieper River, remarkable embankments, long boulevards and spacious parks. It is also the center of high-technology industries and education, machine-building, metallurgy and trade.
Our city is going to host the European Soccer Championship in 2012 which stimulates a rapid growth of infrastructure and intensive development of services sector and supportive industries.
Dnepropetrovsk is a modern city and significant commercial center. The Karl Marx Avenue is the main trade artery of the city. It is a very beautiful, wide and long parkway, which stretches east to west through the central part of the city. It was founded in the XVIII century and the beautiful architecture of its buildings is the actual decoration of the city. There are plenty of shops and cafes of different sizes which offer all types of goods and food for different income levels.
Being one of the major cities of Ukraine, Dnepropetrovsk has an INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT which makes it easy to get to Dnepropetrovsk from any part of the world. On the top of Karl Marx Avenue there is Zhovtneva square, on which is the majestic Cathedral that was founded by order of Katherine II (Russian empress) in 1776.
In the center of the city there is the Shevchenko Musical drama Theatre founded in 1919 as the first national theatre of Ukraine, an Opera House, the Gorky Russian Drama Theatre, the Theatre of children and youth, the Puppet Theatre, the Theatre of one actor.
The collection of the Museum of Fine Arts comprises more than seven thousand exhibits including works of eminent European, Russian and Ukrainian painters.
In what was formerly the Briansky temple now the House of Organ and Chamber Music is situated which can be rightfully viewed as the true decoration of the western part of the city.
The city’s history going back more than two centuries is featured in the
exhibits of the Historic museum. The collection contains hundreds of the most unique things belonging to the rich history of the Dnieper area, the capital of which Dnepropetrovsk had become long ago.
Looking through the pages of the city’s history one can say that people are the greatest treasure of the city. This treasure can never lose its value.
